Tobias Haar, born in Stuttgart in 1972, has been working as a lawyer since 1999 after studying and completing his legal clerkship in Heidelberg. 3C: Patents & AI: Unlocking Opportunities & Navigating Risks in the European patent ecosystem

3D: Mock Case – Resolving IT Conflicts with ADR / Mediation

In this session, we will demonstrate and discuss how you can assist your clients in finding solutions to IT disputes through the use of mediation. Corina and Julia will introduce a real IT case that was litigated for years and ultimately decided by the Swiss Supreme Court. They will demonstrate how mediation could have led to a faster and more cost-effective solution that would have benefited all parties. The audience will gain insight into the mediation process, its distinctions from direct party negotiation, the significance of considering the underlying interests of the parties, and the role of lawyers in mediation. This panel will tackle the complex relationship between intellectual property law and generative AI, highlighting the legal, technical and business challenges associated with training AI models, data mining, web scraping, and the use of generative AI in various business applications. As generative AI technology advances, pressing questions arise regarding intellectual property rights, particularly the opposing interests of intellectual property owners and AI model developers. We will explore the balance between transparency obligations for general-purpose AI model providers introduced by Article 53 of the EU AI Act and the protection of trade secrets and confidential business information. Compliance at FinTech Companies: Lessons to be Learned from Wirecard with Andrea Görres, General Counsel Wirecard AG i. In.

For many years Andrea Görres has been working as General Counsel for Wirecard, a Munich based FinTech company offering payment systems, e.g. for online transactions. It was involved in one of Germany’s largest financial scandals after World War II, when it turned out in 2020 that 1.9 billion Euro in offshore bank accounts which the company had reported in its financial statements did in fact not exist. The CEO is still in jail and criminal proceedings against him and two other key managers are still ongoing. One of the key managers fled Germany just in time and is probably in Russia.

MTB Ride
Mountain Bike Ride in Munich

We will get together for some mountain biking fun on the Saturday after the conference to wind down and follow our joint passion of cycling. We will start from the conference hotel and head to the Isar, the river that runs through Munich. We will then follow it to the start of the Isar Trails, the Munich hometrails for MTB riders.

We have a pre-reservation for 10 rental bikes. Please advise on your size for getting the right frames. Bring your own bike is welcome as well. Attendees should bring a helmet and appropriate clothes. This ride goes through forests and fields. Considering the time of the year, expect it to be muddy.
