Hester de Vries

Hester de Vries is one of the Dutch leading experts in data protection law. She focuses her practice on the many aspects of data protection law and technology. She has advised the top 5 Banks in the Netherlands on several data protection issues. Recent projects concern e-marketing, behavioral advertising, international data transfers as well as overall data protection compliance programs.

Ms. De Vries previously worked as a researcher at the Institute for Information Technology and Law of the Vrije Universiteit where she earned her Ph.D. After completing her doctorate, she was an expert member of the committee of the Dutch government Social Economic Council at the Hugo Sinzheimer Institute. She then became a senior policy officer at the Dutch Data Protection Board.

Ms. De Vries is a staff member of the Institute for Transnational Legal Studies of the Vrije Universiteit, chair of the Dutch Society for Privacy Law, and editor of the Professional journal Privacy and Information and the Professional Journal Computer Law.
