The In-House Counsel Committee is excited to present a webinar tailored for the technology law professional with expertise in software licensing. The webinar led by Ward Classen and Sheena Jacob will explore current software licensing issues including cloud computing software licenses, what is necessary for effective software development agreements, professional services agreements, and maintenance and support agreements. Sheena will provide commentary relating to aspects of licensing software in Asia.

Clive Davies, Fujitsu, United Kingdom

Clive is a senior counsel with Fujitsu in the UK advising in particular on major IT service contracts with customers in the public and private sectors. Prior to joining Fujitsu Clive was the lead IT and outsourcing partner in London at two leading city law firms. Clive specialises in advising on large outsourcing agreements. He has a particular interest in improving the contracting process, believing that a successful contract supports effective delivery. He is also the professional development manager for the legal and commercial function in Fujitsu UK seeking to improve training and individual capability. Clive lectures and writes regularly on IT subjects. Clive is past chair and Fellow of SCL, a past chair of ITechLaw's In-House Committee, and an editor of Communications Law.



Ward Classen, Discovery Education, Inc., United States

Author, The Practical Guide to Software Licensing and Cloud Computing, published by the American Bar Association, now in its seventh edition, which has been widely cited and quoted both by courts and academic institutions including the American Law Institute in its treatise Principles of the Law of Software Contracts. Mr. Classen also serves as an expert witness in software licensing disputes where he has supported both plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts as well as in arbitration. Ward Classen is a graduate of Trinity College in Connecticut and received a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He received his Juris Doctor from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C where he was a member of the Catholic University Law Review and editor-in-chief of The Journal of Contemporary Health Law and Policy. Past Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association Business Law Section and Past Chair of the Association of Corporate Counsel, Baltimore Chapter.




Sheena Jacob, CMS Holborn Asia, Singapore

Sheena is a leading Asian technology lawyer with more than 25 years of experience in Asia. She is admitted to practice in New York, England & Wales, and Singapore. She leads a strong technology, cybersecurity, and data protection practice at CMS Holborn Asia which is ranked as a Tier 1 International Firm in TMT by Legal 500 in 2021. Holding double international privacy certifications from the IAPP, Sheena has been active in the privacy field for more than 10 years.  She also represents a significant number of industry players in the digital media industry and has strong experience with software licensing, cybersecurity, and data localization issues across Asia. Sheena works closely with a team of technology lawyers and advises on regulatory issues in the media, telecoms, and fintech sectors in Asia Pacific. Sheena is ranked as a leading TMT lawyer in Asia and as the only lawyer in the Top 20 Women in Cybersecurity in Singapore. She is known for her sound, commercial advice and is particularly adept at solving complex issues for clients.
